The UK Points Based System

The UK Government has introduced a Points Based System for foreign nationals who wish to work or study in Britain. The system is split into various tiers, covering business people and investors, highly skilled workers, temporary workers like working holidaymakers, and students. Examples of requirements under the Points Based System include:

  • Highly skilled workers may not be required to have secured a job offer prior to applying to work in the UK, but will be required to pass a points-based assessment.
  • Those with an offer of employment may be sponsored by a UK-based employer.
  • Students, their universities and colleges have the responsibility of informing the Border Agency of changes to their circumstances during the course.

The immigration law solicitors at Latitude Law will be happy to discuss the details of the Points Based System and their implications for you at an informal initial consultation. We have closely monitored the introduction of the PBS and are familiar with the Border Agency’s policy guidelines and rules.

Alternatively, further details of the PBS and what it could mean for you can be found at www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk
